Two New York City police officers apprehended 19-year-old Julio Iglesias after witnessing the suspect shoot Gavin Torres, 19. According to police reports, Officers Christopher Deats and Allison Rodriguez of the 70th Precinct heard a gunshot while on routine patrol in the Midwood neighborhood. When they turned their cruiser on Avenue J, the officers observed Iglesias fire two shots in the direction of Torres. Iglesias fled the scene after the officers identified themselves, discarding a 9mm gun and a knife before being arrested moments later without incident. Torres was transported to Kings County Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 2:32 a.m. Iglesias is charged with second degree murder and criminal possession of a firearm.
