Five handwritten Torahs worth as much as $250,000 were stolen from the Congregation Yirah Haschem at 1556 53rd St. in Borough Park, community leaders said on Wednesday. The theft was discovered when community leaders opened the synagogue at 6:30 a.m. The religious scrolls topped with silver crowns and adornments were taken from an unlocked storage area. The synagogue showed no signs of forced entry, according to police. Assemblyman Dov Hikind and Councilman David Greenfield are offering a joint $10,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest.
