Investigators from the New York City Fire Department said they believed an electric griddle is what caused a three-alarm fire last week in Midwood, Brooklyn, reports NY 1.
The blaze began after the griddle was left plugged in atop a wooden countertop. Once the countertop ignited the rest of the house on Avenue P quickly followed.
8-year-old Avigdor Kransy was trapped by the flames and was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
Five children in all made it out unharmed, four firefighters suffered mild injuries.
