New York city agreed on a $ 10 million settlement over failures at the Newtown Creek wastewater treatment plant, 7 of which are specifically targeted for waterfront-improvement projects within a half mile of the treatment plant, according to The New York Post.
Brooklyn residents now get to cast their vote for one of 27 proposals submitted by community groups on how to use the money. The state Department of Environmental Conservation will ultimately decide which projects to fund early next year.
