Conductor Alan Pierson is helping revive the once faltering Brooklyn Philharmonic with a Concert Thursday at Brighton Beach’s Millennium Theater, part of a larger effort to take advantage of the borough’s varied cultural offerings.
Pierson’s plan for breathing new life into the borough’s Philharmonic is to play concerts around Brooklyn rather than in a single location. In October, the Philharmonic performed a free concert in Bedford-Stuyvesant that blended a performance by the rapper Mos Def with music from Beethoven and Frederic Rzewski.
Thursday’s concert at the Millennium Theater will feature orchestral accompaniment to Soviet-era cartoons.
