Paris Burlesque Club on Commerce Street promised to feature live jazz, comedians, mimes and jugglers, but The Brooklyn Paper discovered that it is merely a front for “sleazy poles, lap dances, thumping hip hop and soft-core porn on screen.”

Back in January, a group of Red Hook residents protested against the it at a Community Board hearing, saying that the burlesque club would eventually turn into a strip joint. In response, the club’s owner David Ruggiero promised that “this is not going to be an adult establishment.” He staged burlesque shows initially, but dropped them later on for strip dancers, according to legitimate burlesque dancers The Brooklyn Paper spoke to.

After checking with the Department of Buildings, The Brooklyn Paper also reported that the club is not operating with a proper cabaret license.
