Home Live Wire Council Approves Controversial Historic Downtown District

The New York City Council Subcommittee on Landmarks, Public Siting and Maritime Uses on Tuesday approved a five-block, 21-building historic district in Downtown Brooklyn, despite opposition, reported the New York Times. The Real Estate Board of New York and the co-op board of 72 Court Street, one of the 21 buildings, are against the historic district because of the renovations and cost that will need to be made because of the designation. The entire City Council still needs to ratify the approval, but is expected to do so.
