The defense lawyer for a teen on trial for murdering her cousin brought a psychiatrist to the stand today.
The psychiatrist said in his medical opinion the defendant, Tiana Browne, has Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and was not mentally healthy at the time the crime took place. Browne was charged with stabbing her cousin 30 times with a knife on September 30, 2008.
The psychiatrist, Dr. Richard G. Dudley Jr., said that the multiple rapes Browne had told him she had experienced caused the PTSD. Dudley said because of her PTSD Browne suffered from dissociative episodes where her vision would go black, and she would re-experience the thoughts and feelings that she had at the times of the rapes. He said from their interviews, and medical records, he believes she had such an experience at the time of the murder.
The Brooklyn Ink’s Idil Abshir will continue to follow the trial as the prosecution cross-examines Dudley this afternoon. Check back here for more updates.
