The Landmark Preservation Commission is putting its foot down. In a sad day for Brooklyn Brownstones, the demolition of 348 Clermont Ave is underway today in Fort Greene, reports Brownstoner. The building was built in 1865, and is described by the New York Landmarks Conservancy as “a classic Italianate brownstone,” which put it on its endangered buildings list.
Fed up, the LPC is suing the owner for the full value of the property to make an example of those who buy these properties then let them deteriorate, leaving them the commission to clean up the mess. Brownstoner has photos of the disgusting state of the property before the demolition.
