A Brooklyn jury is now deliberating whether or not Hakim Scott, 26, is guilty of murder in the second degree as a hate crime for the death of Ecuadorian immigrant Jose Sucuzhanay. Closing arguments finished this afternoon with the prosecution arguing that Scott was the instigator of the attack against 31-year-old Sucuzhanay, while the defense said Scott’s friend and co-defendant Keith Phoenix brutally beat Sucuzhanay with a bat, inflicting the injuries that eventually took his life. Closing arguments will be presented Thursday in the Phoenix case. The cases were presented jointly, but a separate jury will decide the fate of 30-year-old Phoenix. The Brooklyn Ink will be there.
