A 19 year-old Brooklyn man was swept out to sea Wednesday when he and three friends were wading in the ocean on a beach in Long Island yesterday. Manuel Tiburcio’s friends were all rescued, but according to the Daily News, the search for Tiburcio was eventually called off. That same day, just a few hours earlier, a Long Beach police officer was responding to a call when he ran over a sunbather, Marshall Starkman, 43, of Long Island. Starkman was apparently in Officer Paul DeMarco’s blind spot. Starkman had serious injuries, but survived.
