Philip Barry, a man accused of a Ponzi scheme and who is at the center of suits filed by former clients in Brooklyn Federal Court, is attempting to keep a note he wrote from being used in his trial, New York Daily News reports. “I’m just a crook running a Ponzi scheme,” the note said. Barry unintentionally gave the evidence to investigators. Defense lawyers claim he jotted the information to, “gather his thoughts and to prepare himself for conversations with disgruntled investors.” Barry operated from a Bay Ridge store front as an investment advisor before being accused of a $40 million Ponzi scheme.
