A planned merger with SUNY Downstate Medical Center has saved Long Island College Hospital from the financial chopping block. The Brooklyn hospital was facing possible closure or bankruptcy reports The New York Times. LICH, which is located in Cobble Hill, already has been at risk of shutting their doors since 2008. Governor Paterson said the state would give $40 million to support the merger.
