Williamsburg to Receive Own Branded Cigarettes

Williamsburg will be featured on packs of Camel-brand cigarettes, The Wall Street Journal reports. R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. started a campaign that features various American cities on packs of cigarettes. Austin, TX and Las Vegas have already been featured by the company as part of their 10-week contest asking participants to guess where the camel mascot is that week to win various prizes. “It’s cynical for a tobacco company to launch a branding scheme that tries to exploit the life and energy of our streets to market an addictive product,” city Health Commissioner Thomas Farley said. “This promotion is basically a celebration of locations across the country,” David Howard, company spokesperson, said.
