After 30 years on the run, a man captured hiding in Brooklyn has pleaded not guilty to murder. Lorenzo Carter, 51, is charged in a shooting that took place on March 30, 1980, near his Atlantic City home that killed one man and wounded another, reported the Daily Eagle. He entered the plea Tuesday at his arraignment in New Jersey State Superior Court in Mays Landing on charges of murder, aggravated assault and weapons charges. He was captured Feb. 22 in Brooklyn by the U.S. Marshals Service.

The Marshals Service said Carter fled out the back of his apartment when officers tried to make entry. Carter was identified as a suspect soon after the 1980 shooting of Everton Kelly in Atlantic City, said authorities. Carter is believed to have used more than a dozen aliases while on the run.
