There’s a sad new development in the story of the Brooklyn white-tailed deer: one of them has died.
The deer, one of two picked up by a police boat near the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Brooklyn Animal Care and Control office, the New York Times reports.
Also on Wednesday, a third deer was caught in a fence on the Brooklyn waterfront and was euthanized. Officials are still uncertain as to how the animals ended up in Brooklyn, or why one deer’s legs were bound with twine.
The deer was one of three picked up in Brooklyn on Wednesday, the first deer seen in the borough in at least 50 years, according to the city’s chief naturalist.
