A large group of teenagers marched over Brooklyn Bridge Wednesday to protest against the NYPD’s policy of stop-and-frisk. Amidst the light drizzle, the protesters walked along with campaign members for Just and Fair Policing. Members of this organization as well as the protesters complained that blacks and Latinos are about nine times as likely as whites to be stopped and frisked on occasion. The NYPD claims that only a small percentage of these stops results in actual arrests.

After the march, protesters gathered in City Hall and lobbied with Council representatives to curb these random searches and to create a more severe policy that limits the use of this technique. The stop-and-frisk approach has raised a number of comments from several civil liberties groups.
