A black scarecrow was found hanging from a tree on the Kensington neighborhood this week, Gothamist reports.
City Councilman Charles Barron came across the scarecrow, which looked like it had been the victim of lynching. Barron said in a statement that “The scarecrow is offensive and reprehensible not only to the Black Community, but to all those who have a history of persecution and, or have been victimized by lynch mobs.”
The scarecrow has now been taken down by New York City Police, because trees are public property. The culprits have not come forward.
