The Wall Street Journal reports that the Ridgewood Bushwick Senior Citizens Council, a non-profit organization founded by Assemblyman Vito Lopez, has come under scrutiny after a city probe and audits that allege several financial improprieties. A report by the Department of Investigation alleges that besides inaccurate tax and expense reports, the council had doubled the pay of its executive director without approval from its board.
Lopez declined to comment on the DOI report but defended Ridgewood Bushwick by saying the non-profit has had an outstanding track record for over thirty years.
