State and federal transportation officials have abandoned plans to repair and modernize two Brooklyn highways, the New York Post reported.
The Brooklyn-Queens and Gowanus expressways had been slated for billions of dollars worth of work, which was to include the revamping of dilapidated stretches of road and the construction of tunnels along both motorways. But the state Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration decided that the highways do not require major repairs during this time of economic downturn.
