Census data examining population changes between 2010 and 2012 revealed that Brooklyn was the city’s fastest growing borough, increasing by 2.4 percent. Brooklyn was already the largest borough, and it now boasts a population of 2,565,635. Manhattan had the second largest boom, with a 2.1 percent increase. New York City grew by 2 percent on the whole, and now makes up more than 42 percent of the state’s population.
