Jay-Z Announces Retirement at Intimate Brooklyn Show

Home Live Wire Jay-Z Announces Retirement at Intimate Brooklyn Show

Rapper and Brooklyn native Jay-Z announced his retirement during a surprise performance at the Downhouse Lounge in Gravesend Sunday evening. He told the awestruck crowd that most ticket sales for his upcoming tour with Justin Timberlake were being snapped up by teenage girls and their parents, and he felt he had lost connection with where he came from. After playing a few more of his hits, accompanied only by a piano, Jay declared that he had a daughter to take care of, and “Beyonce can cover the bills fine by herself.” His only regret was not having a new album on which to pseudo-officially announce his retirement, as he is wont to do.

“I wish I had something like ‘The Black Album’ to play up the whole quitting music angle,” he said. “I guess I’ll just re-release ‘Black’ as a special ten-year anniversary package. Hustle those suckers for a few more bucks.”

Happy April 1st from The Brooklyn Ink.
