Man Arrested for Damaging Brooklyn Trees

After tearing off branches and generally wreaking havoc on more than 20 trees in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn, a man was arrested and charged with arborcide (vandalism of public trees). Steve Maynard, 35, was arrested in June and sent to Kings County Hospital for evaluation, but has since been released, according to the New York Times. “No one’s angry at Steve,” Philip Silva, a Prospect Heights resident and volunteer with the Prospect Heights Forestry Community Initiative told the Times. “But we need him to get better for our trees to get better.”
