The chess team at Intermediate School 318 in East Williamsburg has 28 national championships under their belt, but recent budget cuts have faculty and students scrambling to raise money.

The program costs $100,000 to run, and even with extra money raised through chocolate sales and private donations, the school still needs an additional $60,000. Despite financial concerns, the students are turning their attention to upcoming games against Google’s executives and undergraduates from Columbia.
