Traffic in the borough is bad enough, but factor in a foot of snow and driving becomes a dangerous endeavor. Despite the dangers, about 100 cab and limousine companies will still be operating in Brooklyn.
“We going to have have a few drivers not show up,” said Jose Viloria, president of New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers, “but 70 percent of the cars will show up tomorrow. We are going to stay open.”
Viloria’s fleet of cabs, equipped with all-season tires, are ready for the influx of customers. The snowy conditions make it more conducive for drivers to price gouge customers. To crack down on drivers who attempt to overcharge travelers during inclement weather, Viloria encourages the public to call a dispatcher who will take disciplinary action against the drivers.
“Drivers need to be careful tomorrow because it’s dangerous,” Viloria said, “and the public needs to be patient.”
