Strong words on MTA cuts

Home Brooklyn Life Strong words on MTA cuts

The MTA is out of money. But cutting 15 subway lines will make commutes longer for a lot of people who rely on them to commute between Manhattan and Brooklyn each day. Dennis Holt in an editorial in The Brooklyn Eagle has strong words on whether the budget is an excuse for reducing public transportation:

“In hard budget times, governments would not compromise on the quality of our drinking water system. We would not mandate that our hospitals re-use old bandages. We would not close down our food control quality system. We would not turn off all our signal lights, for that matter.

“It is just as radical to start jeopardizing our transportation stream as it would be to harm those other elements of our civil conduct.”

Of course, the question remains, as the budget numbers look increasingly grim, what are we going to cut?
