Sentencing for Rabbi Is Pushed Back

Home Live Wire Sentencing for Rabbi Is Pushed Back

At 11:30 a.m. on Monday at the Brooklyn Supreme Court, the scheduled sentencing for Baruch Lebovits, the rabbi convicted on eight counts of sexually assaulting a teenage boy, was adjourned and rescheduled at the request of the Arthur Aidala, Lebovits’ defense attorney.

Dressed in a black kippah, gray sweatshirt and sweatpants, Lebovits appeared tired and defeated, silently standing throughout the long discussions the judge had at the bench with Aidala and Miss Gregory, the prosecuting attorney.

The presiding judge, Patricia DiMango, accepted the request and rescheduled the sentencing for April 12. Because Monday evening is the first night of Passover, the defendant’s family was not present in court. Aidala further requested it be noted in the record that Lebovits requested a temporary release so that he could spend the holiday with his family.

“The request is respectfully denied,” DiMango said.
