The defense for Hakim Scott has concluded its closing arguments in the alleged hate-crime murder of Ecuadorian immigrant Jose Sucuzhanay. Scott’s attorney Craig Newman told jurors that Scott hit Sucuzhanay once with a Budweiser beer bottle but had no intent to seriously harm him. Newman told jurors that it was Scott’s friend and co-defendant Keith Phoenix who delivered the blows with the baseball bat the eventually killed Sucuzhanay. “This is, ladies and gentleman, two separate actions by two separate individuals.” Moments ago, prosecutors began presenting their case against Scott.
