The Department of Transportation has installed the first countdown-style pedestrian signals in Brooklyn. A total of 1,500 of the lights will be installed throughout the city in an effort to curb accidents involving pedestrians on city streets. “[These clocks] make it so much easier for seniors, for families, for kids, especially for pedestrians, but also for cyclists and drivers to know how much time they have, and to make smart decisions and stay safe,” City Councilman Brad Lander told NY1. “We really believe it’s going to save lives.”
