Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz unveiled a highway sign touting Brooklyn as the fourth-largest city in America yesterday, but The New York Times is reporting that may not be the case for much longer.

Markowitz unveiled a sign outside Borough Hall yesterday reading “Welcome to Brooklyn: the 4th Largest City in America,” a reference to the fact that Brooklyn would still be the country’s fourth-largest city if it were to secede from New York City.

The Times is reporting that Houston is expected to pass Brooklyn in population by 2030. Brooklyn currently has about 2.9 million residents and Houston has about 2.3 million, according to the report.

By 2030, Houston is expected to have a population of 2.8 million, while Brooklyn’s population is expected to be about 2.72 million.
