No more leaky faucets, says City Council

The city council approved a package yesterday aimed at conserving billions of gallons of the city’s water supply, Gotham Gazette reports. The bill will require new commercial buildings to have water fountains with spouts that can accommodate a 10-inch water bottle below, mandate new homeowners to install alarms that detect water tank leaks, and allow, for the first time, dual-flush toilets. The move came out of a “green code task force,” established by Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Council Speaker Christine Quinn, to make the city’s building, plumbing and electrical codes more eco-friendly.
