Penthouse Magazine’s Bob Guccione died from throat cancer this morning. The Brooklyn born artist and impresario founded Penthouse in 1965 while he worked as a cartoonist in London, selling it as the “magazine of sex politics and protest.”
Penthouse made an estimated $4 billion dollars with Guccione in charge says the Daily Finance and “the Gooch” was included Forbes magazine’s list of the world’s richest people in 1982, with a personal fortune of more than $400 million.
But Penthouse struggled with the advent of the internet, Guccione was forced to sell it and to file for bankruptcy in 2003.
