The jury reconvened this afternoon to deliberate in the trial of a young man who allegedly shot a security guard almost 20 years ago, reports The Brooklyn Ink’s Michael del Castillo.

On New Year’s Eve 1990, security guard William Smith, 22, was shot in the face and killed. Shortly after the shooting, Derrick Lloyd, the alleged shooter, calmly left the scene and disappeared for 15 years. Lloyd spent the last four years in Riker’s Island Prison awaiting trial.

The prosecution’s case lasted 4 days in which three witnesses identified Lloyd as the shooter. One failed to do so.

The defense presented only two witnesses, one who claimed the defendant was with her the night of the killing, and another who knew Lloyd well and was at the shooting, who said the defendant was not at the scene.
