City officials held the groundbreaking for the $70 million Lakeside project in Prospect Park yesterday, according The New York Post. The 26 acre environmentally friendly recreational center will include open-air and covered roller and ice skating rinks as well as water fountains.

The project was first announced in 2007, and is slated for completion in 2013. Officials hope it will drive triple the number of patrons that frequent the park’s old skating rinks, as the new ones will be open all year round.
