We examined how culture, religion and community shape perceptions and practices surrounding the inevitable. We dug up data on mortality, examined Brooklyn’s burial spaces and spoke to the people — from florists to funeral directors — who deal daily with death. Oxymoronic as it may seem, death is an indispensable part of life.
