FYI: Mormon funerals are NOT held in LDS Temples, rather they are held in LDS Chapels. Our chapels are where we meet for Sunday meetings, funerals, and other meetings and activities, and anyone can enter them at anytime. Our temples are sacred places which require a special recommend (or permission) to enter, and where members make sacred covenants with The Lord and ordinances are performed for the dead.

I just wanted to correct a couple of things on your Mormon funeral section. Funerals take place in a church, not the temple. Only certain worthy LDS members are allowed to enter the temple, therefore it would be inappropriate to hold a funeral there. Also, most Mormons where dark clothing but not usually black to a funeral, really anything Sunday/Church dress would be acceptable. Also, Mormons are not offended by a cross, we just don’t use it ourselves for the reasons you mentioned, but we understand why others wear it and are just fine with others wearing it too. Thanks! 🙂

I believe whomever wrote this should’ve done a LOT more research beforehand. Catholics also strongly believe in the principle of being returned to dust. Since Catholics are the original Christian religion and all others are known as Protestants because they broke away from the church, Catholics have a lot more funeral traditions than it states here and pay their respects in a very solemn way. I’m actually offended that this article gives the Mormon religion more credit for their funeral traditions. I have nothing against Mormons in any way but the origin of any Christian tradition should be researched before being published as something the Mormons do at funerals when Catholics have been around for a much longer period of time and established many traditions that were not named or even implied to have.

Kay, it really isn’t a competition whose is older or THE one. Credit? Is this a competition to see whose is right? This is just a list of traditions, and no one said one was older, better, or absolutely the only way to do it.
