Home Live Wire Arraignment Scheduled For Two Suspects In Series of ATM Robberies

Yesterday we told you that police arrested four suspects in connection with ATM robberies in Brooklyn. They allegedly broke into stores, stole cash, and dumped bleach on the machines to erase their tracks.

Today, police say two of them–Amaurys Hernandez, 26, and Andy Lopez, 31–were scheduled to be arraigned at Brooklyn Criminal Court. Hernandez admitted to being involved in 11 of the burglaries, while Lopez said he was involved in three of them.  Police say sixty-two delis, discount stores, and pizzerias have been looted since August 2010.

But the best part: these burglars were inspired by Ben Affleck.

Juicy details from the police report:

Suspects in the pattern told detectives that they were inspired by the Ben Affleck  movie “The Town” in which the protagonists used bleach to cover their tracks. The suspects in the real burglaries cut power to the locations and used miners’ headlamps to see what they were doing in the dark.  They stole a total of $217,000 in cash from ATMs and cash drawers. They also stole laptop computers.
Kids, don’t try this at home.
