Book publisher Little, Brown and Company, has accused Brooklyn author Quentin Rowan of plagiarism, according to the New York Daily News. The company asked bookstores to return copies of Rowan’s book and promise refunds.

Pulling the book has only helped sales on Amazon.com, The Wall Street Journal reports. The book’s ranking jumped from 43,996 yesterday afternoon to 1,034 this morning.

No one is sure how the plagiarism was discovered, but a statement from the publisher says his novel has material “lifted from a variety of classic and contemporary sources.”

In an interview with the Daily News last week, Rowan said he had grown “disillusioned” by the successes of other Brooklyn authors, including Jonathan Safran Foer.
