The N.B.A. is postponing Thursday night’s opening game between the Knicks and the Nets, due to conditions from Hurricane Sandy.

Transportation to and from the arena is a major concern.  Due to mass transit outages, fans will find it extremely difficult to get to the arena, which sits above Atlantic Station, one of the largest transportation hubs in Brooklyn.

remain on schedule.  “Our police have plenty of other things to do,” he added, explaining how it was in New York City’s best interest to postpone the event.

The season opener will instead be Saturday night against the Toronto Raptors.

According to Nets CEO Brett Yormark’s letter to fans, ticketholders will not lose their seats to the anticipated event.  Instead, their tickets will be honored at the rescheduled game, whose date has yet to be determined.
