A Brooklyn man was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting two women in Sunset Park on Sunday morning and charged with assault, sexual abuse and forcible touching, according to police.

Federico Chamorro Yax, 22, a native of Guatemala, followed the women from a subway station before attacking them, police say. He ran up behind the women and sexually assaulted one of them before the other intervened and tackled the suspect.

Authorities say the attack continued on the ground when Yax apparently groped the second woman, who suffered an arm injury in the struggle but wounded the suspect before he fled.

Investigators have connected this assault to another on Sept. 4 that involved a 30-year-old woman and say it’s similar to a string of high-profile sexual attacks. At least 10 assaults like Sunday’s have taken place in the borough since March, police say, but Yax is not considered a suspect in those cases.

Police used surveillance video to link Yax to the assault, and when officers arrived at his door and took him in for line-ups on Monday, he was charged in connection with those attacks.
