Following yesterday’s announcement of Brooklyn Fare’s upgrade to a three-Michelin-star-rated restaurant, Brooklyn also received accolades today in the newest Zagat New York City Restaurants guide.

The borough garnered five of the top slots for the city’s best pizza and earned high honors in the barbeque, dessert, Mexican and Middle Eastern cuisine categories. Coney Island’s legendary Totonno’s Pizzeria Napolitana was dubbed New York’s best pizza venue.

Carroll Gardens’ Lucali’s trailed behind Totonno’s, followed by Midwood’s Di Fara. Roberta’s in Bushwick earned the number five position and Franny’s in Prospect Heights placed eighth.

While Totonno’s uses a coal-fired brick oven to bake its signature white pizza, the Chef’s Table at Brooklyn Fare serves a 25-to-35 course meal featuring small, composed bites of raw fish for $185. Chef Cesar Ramirez’s venue is the only Brooklyn establishment to earn Michelin’s highest honor.
