Occupy Wall Street protesters arrested last week for marching across the Brooklyn Bridge roadway filed a lawsuit against New York City officials yesterday on grounds of violation of constitutional rights.

Five of the protesters — seeking to represent the 700 people detained on Saturday — issued a civil rights complaint against the city, Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly in Manhattan federal court. They claimed commanding New York City Police Dept. officers led demonstrators onto the bridge’s roadway in order to trap and arrest them.

The protesters are requesting a formal declaration nullifying the arrests and an order banning the use of similar tactics in the future.

Police have said protesters were warned against blocking the road.
