Home Brooklyn Life Sexual Assault Victim Complains About Lack of Police Response

A Windsor Terrace woman who was allegedly sexually attacked on Sept. 24 reports that police downplayed the assault because she couldn’t identify her attacker as the “South Slope rapist,” according to The Brooklyn Paper.

The 28-year-old student claims that she was pushed up against her apartment door and groped while entering her home. She said the suspect fled after she screamed and a passerby approached with a dog.

According to the victim, police led her to the Special Victims Unit and showed her videos and sketches of the men suspected of assaulting 12 women since March. Officers concluded that the attack wasn’t related to the ongoing sexual assaults and allegedly said the man was drunk and merely bumped into the victim.

After reading the police account, the victim said she realized that the threat was more salient. She also said she grew suspicious of the heightened surveillance around her apartment and said the description of her perpetrator matches that of the men wanted in other South Brooklyn attacks.

A police source said the woman was unable to identify the person who bumped into her as the suspect in the videos and pictures. He insisted that the case is nevertheless being thoroughly investigated.
