The newly renovated Brooklyn Supreme Court will boast courtrooms that once served as jail cells, among other renovations, according to the Brooklyn Daily Eagle.
While space formerly used for the grand jury has been converted into new courtrooms and offices on the second floor of the courthouse, the former location of defendant holding cells for criminal trials is being made into judges’ chambers on the ninth floor.
The Kings County Supreme Court Civil Term building has undergone drastic transformations worth $6 million over the last three years. New courtrooms, robing rooms, jury rooms and offices have also been instated.
Dan Leary, the courthouse’s facilities manager, said work on the second and ninth floors is progressing nicely with heating and plumbing already in place.
